Hypnotherapy is a subtle but powerful tool, which works on the basis that the large majority of our lives are actually run by our subconscious minds rather than our conscious minds. As a result we can find ourselves in the frustrating position of repeating patterns, which seem to occur no matter how much willpower we put into place. These patterns can come in the form of low self-esteem, weight gain, habits, phobias, insomnia, stress and anxiety.
Hypnotherapy is a beautifully natural process which has proven to have excellent results. It works by allowing direct access to the subconscious mind where negative beliefs can be rooted out and replaced by new and positive belief systems.
What happens in a Hypnotherapy session?
Usually we would start with an Initial Consultation to talk about why you are wanting to have Hypnosis and to talk a little bit about the process. The Hypnosis session itself entails you sitting on a comfortable chair/sofa or lying on a massage table with your eyes open or closed – whichever makes you feel more comfortable – and allowing yourself to listen to the sound of my voice as I guide you deeper and deeper into relaxation. At the end you will be brought out of your relaxed state through my voice and we will talk a little more before that particular session is over.
Will I remain aware of what is going on?
Being in Hypnosis is very similar to driving a car on a route that is very familiar to you. You are conscious that you are driving but as you are driving you may find your mind drifting to the movie the night before or the weekend you are going to have and before you know it you have arrived at your destination but if you were to try and recount all the gear changes you may have done or the colour of the car infront of you, you might find yourself unable to remember the detail.
Can you make me do something I don’t want to do?
Hypnosis, despite all the stage shows cannot make you do something that is against your moral code. Bringing yourself out of Hypnosis is something you can do instantaneously and at any time. You are always in control.
Will I have to do anything?
Most therapies come with a willingness of the client to do the work and this is especially so for Hypnosis. Scripts will be provided for you to listen to at home and this will be considered part of your ‘homework’ and an important part of the therapeutic process.
